Hello everyone! Sorry about the recent lack of posting on this blog. Ive been working on PHP coding a new open source social networking script, which will power a new site I have in mind. which I will let you all in on when its done. Keep your eyes open for it. In the mean time, we are coming up on the release of Ubuntu Feisty and I will be around to cover that.

Recently I purchased a new test rig from MadTux, its a 3.2ghz Celeron system bundled with FreeSpire for $289.00. This will become my main linux testbed, so that I can try out all of the newest distros for you all. I figured having a mid-to-low range desktop will give me a better idea of what the general computer owner would encounter using new distros on older hardware.

Talk to you all soon. I'll be posting the unboxing when it shows up.

Ubuntu now more popular than Mac OS X!

Whats up everyone? I was just taking a look at Google Trends and I found out something interesting. Apparently Ubuntu Linux has not only surpassed its major competitor in Linux ( SuSE ) in popularity, as well as the distro it's based off of (Debian) , but it seems to have also surpassed another major competitor. Yes, that's right! Apple Computer's very own Mac OS X has also been defeated in popularity by Ubuntu! Check it out for yourself. Here is a screenshot I took not 15 minutes ago. The blue line you see shooting up to the sky there is Ubuntu itself, while Mac OS, SuSE and Debian seem to all hang around the same general level of popularity. I've purposely left Windows out of this graph because if added, all of these OS's crawl near the bottom of the graph in an almost flat line compared to Windows' wild lead. Just thought this was pretty cool! Free software is definetly making some serious progress.

Ubuntu tricks - how to mount your WinXP partition, make it read/writabable

Heres a great tip that I found for Ubuntu. I've had my NTFS partition hanging out with win xp on it, and been dual booting for a while just to get to my old files. Now that I can mount my NTFS partition IN Ubuntu, I no longer have to switch back and forth. I think this might help a lot of you out there, check it out!
